Winter drabble written for innie_darling.

When she leaves Mulder's apartment, the snow is still coming down, sticking enough to form a dusting over the sidewalks and lawns.

She hasn't slept, it will be dawn soon, she's going to be late, and her partner is a crazy man who talked her--far too easily--into spending Christmas Eve in a haunted house.

At her car, Dana takes out the gift he gave her, puts the kaleidoscope to her eye, and looks at the lights and the snow fracture. The familiar turns into something she's never seen.

Dana tilts the kaleidoscope up towards the stars, and laughs.

*I don't know if the kaleidoscope gift is a widely-held fandom idea. At the time the episode aired, given the shape of Mulder's gift to Scully, I remember thinking it was probably a kaleidoscope. Or did I pick the idea elsewhere?
